Nonprofit Launched to Provide Support and Services to the Service Industry

Tulsa, OK – A new nonprofit is launching in Tulsa to provide support and resources to hospitality and service industry professionals in Oklahoma. The Oklahoma Service Guild will kickoff its first event with a Health & Wellness Fair on November 14th. The event will provide service industry workers with one-stop access to resources like independent health insurance enrollment, vision screenings, voter registration, retirement and tax planning, as well as many other benefits.

In March 2020, Lindsey Scotney, owner of Ellis Hospitality, watched her friends, colleagues, and mentors struggle through the COVID pandemic shutdown. The toll it took on their personal and professional lives was devastating. A professional chef and sommelier, Scotney longed for a better system to support service industry professionals. After the successful launch of her hospitality staffing company in Spring 2021, Scotney began to work on creating The Oklahoma Service Guild to support the service industry in ways local businesses are not set up to do.

“Fewer than 10% of service workers in the United States have access to benefits like health insurance and retirement planning,” Scotney said. “The Oklahoma Service Guild gives Oklahoma workers the ability to have access to portable and inexpensive benefits, while being part of a larger organization.”

The Oklahoma Service Guild Health & Wellness Fair will be held on Monday, November 14th from 5 to 8pm at Buddy LaFortune Community Center. The event is free and open to hospitality and service industry members and their families. To find out more about the event, visit https://okserviceguild.org.
